The Victorian Period

Step One: List and describe two events

The Great Exhibition

The Great Exhibition was held in Hyde park in London, England through May 1 and October 15 1851. It was the first exhibition of it's kind. It was a celebration of modern technology and design. I think that world fairs like this one today helps people with different ideas be able to show the world what they have come up with. I think that back then this would have been like going to Mars .

The Seneca Falls Convention

Was held July 19 through July 20 it was a women's rights convention it was actually the first ever women's rights convention. It was men and women meeting to discuss the legal limitations women have and they're rights. They used the declaration of independence to make there statements about there not being treated fairly. It is called the birthplace of feminism. I think that it took alot for women to stand up to what they believed in and what they should be treated like.

What was life like

I think that life was on the edge of change. I think that they were changing from the way they produced things to the technology they had to make and create things. I think it was an age of change. And the people of the town wanted that change. They pushed themselves to change with the changing times. I think that they made change during the Victorian Period.

What did the Victorian writers want to express in there litereature

In victorian literature they asked did it satify human needs and wishes, exploting the earth and human beings to achieve comforts, codes of decorum and authority, materialist ideas of reality, human life, scare and shame readers. Victorian literature entertianed, informed, warned, and reassured.

Cradle Song

What does little birdie sayIn her nest at peep of day?Let me fly, says little birdie,Mother, let me fly away.Birdie, rest a little longer,Till thy little wings are stronger. So she rests a little longer,Then she flies away. What does little baby say,In her bed at peep of day?Baby says, like little birdie,Let me rise and fly away.Baby, sleep a little longer,Till thy little limbs are stronger. If she sleeps a little longer,Baby too shall fly away. Alfred, Lord Tennyson

I read the poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson called Cradle Song. This was a good example of Victorian poems, because it entertained and it kind of informed you. That you have to wait till you are ready to do stuff. I like the poem because it was very cutesy.

A Woman's Last Word

I.Let's contend no more, Love,Strive nor weep:All be as before, Love,---Only sleep!II.What so wild as words are?I and thouIn debate, as birds are,Hawk on bough!III.See the creature stalkingWhile we speak!Hush and hide the talking,Cheek on cheek!IV.What so false as truth is,False to thee?Where the serpent's tooth isShun the tree---V.Where the apple reddensNever pry---Lest we lose our Edens,Eve and I.VI.Be a god and hold meWith a charm!Be a man and fold meWith thine arm!VII.Teach me, only teach, LoveAs I oughtI will speak thy speech, Love,Think thy thought---VIII.Meet, if thou require it,Both demands,Laying flesh and spiritIn thy hands.IX.That shall be to-morrowNot to-night:I must bury sorrowOut of sight:X---Must a little weep, Love,(Foolish me!)And so fall asleep, Love,Loved by thee. Robert Browning

I read a poem by Robert Browning called A Womens Last Word. I think that this poem was a good example of a victorian poem because it made me feel reassured about love, it made you feel as though she actually loved him. As though every little thing that was said in that poem was said from love. I really liked this poem just because of how it made me feel.

A Wish

I ask not that my bed of deathFrom bands of greedy heirs be free; For these besiege the latest breathOf fortune's favoured sons, not me.I ask not each kind soul to keepTearless, when of my death he hears;Let those who will, if any, weep! There are worse plagues on earth than tears.I ask but that my death may findThe freedom to my life denied;Ask but the folly of mankind,Then, at last, to quit my side.Spare me the whispering, crowded room,The friends who come, and gape, and go;The ceremonious air of gloom -All which makes death a hideous show!Nor bring, to see me cease to live,Some doctor full of phrase and fame,To shake his sapient head and giveThe ill he cannot cure a name.Nor fetch, to take the accustomed tollOf the poor sinner bound for death,His brother doctor of the soul,To canvass with official breathThe future and its viewless things -That undiscovered mysteryWhich one who feels death's winnowing wingsMust need read clearer, sure, than he!Bring none of these; but let me be,While all around in silence lies,Moved to the window near, and seeOnce more before my dying eyesBathed in the sacred dew of mornThe wide aerial landscape spread -The world which was ere I was born,The world which lasts when I am dead.Which never was the friend of one,Nor promised love it could not give,But lit for all its generous sun,And lived itself, and made us live. There let me gaze, till I becomeIn soul with what I gaze on wed!To feel the universe my home;To have before my mind -insteadOf the sick-room, the mortal strife,The turmoil for a little breath -The pure eternal course of life,Not human combatings with death. Thus feeling, gazing, let me growComposed, refreshed, ennobled, clear; Then willing let my spirit goTo work or wait elsewhere or here! Matthew Arnold

The poem A Wish by Mathhew Arnold was a great example of victorian work because it questions human life, I mean that it is really telling how he just doesn't understand why we celebrate death as we do and he doesn't want anyone to be around when he dies. I think I liked this poem because I truly hate funreals and feel like the really have no true purpose.

Step 2: Victorian Poets

Thomas Hardy's poem I said to love was a good example of victorian poems because it is a good example human needs I guess. I read a couple of his poems but really could not get into any of them they were not my kind of poems. But from what I did get It seemed to me as though they were good examples of Victorian writing because of the topics he was writing on.

When he said, "It is not now as in old days When men adored thee and thy ways, All else above. I think that was a good example of human needs, everybody ends up getting old, and that is just something that happens. Like I said this peom was kind of confusing but I think that the subject really makes the decision.

I read a Womans lastword by Robert Browning. I really liked this poem I guess just how he wrote it. It made you feeel the love that she had for him and how everything just made her feel the love. I think that I like Robert Browning alot better than any of the other writers.

I think that this is a good example of victorian poetry because it made me feel reassured about love, it makes you want to have a love like she has. Teach me, only teach, LoveAs I oughtI will speak thy speech, Love,Think thy thought, this was one of my favorite lines I really liked how this rolls off your tongue.

I read a Cradle Song by Lord Alfred Tennyson. I liked this even though it reminded me of mother goose. I think it is very cutsey and kids probably would like to learn this poem. I think I liked his writing throughtout the poem though. It sounded like he truly wrote this poem to read to his own child.
What I think really made this poem a good poem to model the restoration period. I think that this model the restoration period becasue it kind of informs you of something, that you have to wait till it is your time. I think that it is a cute little story. And I think the purpose of the story makes it a romanticism poem.

The poem A Wish by Matthew Arnold was a good poem I liked his whole prpose behind it. I also think that death is not handled right now a days, I would not want any one to mourn over my body, I feel like you should celebrate the life that I had not my death. I think that he was very smart on his thoughts.
I think that his poem was a very good renissanece poem because it was informing you of his thoughts. It was kind of funny the way he described certian situations in his life but other than that it was just plan out informing. I think it was the best point of view poem from what I have read.

STEP ONE: THE ROMANTIC PERIOD

Two Historical Events

1) The Storming of The Bastille

The Storming of the Bastille was the beginning of the french revolution. The bastille was a prison and a fortress. A couple of people stormed it looking gun powder and stuff, at the time there were only seven people there being held as prisoners. The people of France stormed the bastille because the King Louis XVI was starving the people. They and already set up the national guard and was waiting for the people to come, but the people were just to much for them to handle. This is all happened on July 14 1789 , this is now a holiday in France called Fête de la Fédération. I think when people come together to get something changed we can make a huge impact.

2)The English Civil War

The English War ended the Restoration Period. This war lead to Charles I to exile along with his son Charles II. It basically was a war against the people for parliament and the people for the royal family. The war begin in 1642 and didn't end until September 3 1651. I think that the royal family was not doing there job in supporting they're people and the parliament was tired of it and made a change happen.

What I Think

After reading about my two topics I think that life during this period of time was kind of hard for these people. I think that they were going through some hard times and the people had got feed up with being treated poorly and they made changes occur. I think that they had been in such bad shape for such a long time that they thought they had to do something to change it. I think that this was a hard period in time for most people but they ended up striving to change it.

The Romantic Period Poems

I think that all of the poems were talking about something sad and something dealing with life like birth and death. It was never something light like Ice Cream. I mean they were thinking about pressing issues even though they may use something not that important like an dead violet.

These poems have alot of different meanings to them. Like they dealt with childhood and innocence , they question authority, how things change and living with change, overflow of powerful feelings, imaginative. They say Romantics were deeply concerned with the truths of the heart and the imagination with the truth.

I read The divine image by William Blake. What I got from that poem was just an overflow of emotion. He was telling how we view things in life and how we view oursleves. He kept saying to mercy, pity, peace and love. And these are some very important things that shape our lives. It was just an emotional poem period.

I read William Woodsworth, The Birth of Love. This was a poem that about youth and innocenece. It told how a new born child is so beautiful. And how taking care of a child is so beautiful. I was basiclly, oohh childbirth is so beautiful.

The Ode was a poem I read by John Keats. In the poem he was basically questioning religion. H ewas talking about how you stay on earth and when you die you go to heaven how can you live to places. O rhow can there be two different places. He was just questioning it.

Section 2

One poem that I read by William Blake was called The Divine Image. I liked the poem even thought it was kind of sad at the same time. He was basically talking about how we are as humans and how we view and act out things. Like he said, To Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love, All pray in their distress. And he was basically talking about how we all have this in our life but they are not always wanted. He repeated that line over and over in the poem. It was kind of like a sad but uplifting poem. I think that this is a good romanticism poem because it is just an overflow of feelings. He is just tellling you how he feels you should feel about certian things.

Another poem that I read was William Wordsworth, The Birth of Love. In this they just talk about the beauty of having a child of your own. He talks about the mother wanting no one to nurse him but her, and how the child was so happy to be with his mother. And how child birth is so beautiful. I think that he really means that life is so beautiful and that we should make every moment and make it as special as child birth. I think that this is a good romanticism poem because it talks about youth and innocence.

I read a poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley called On a dead violet. I really liked this poem even though it was short, it made me want it to be longer. He talks about how when something is gone it is gone no matter what you do to make it come back it will not. He talks about longing for it again the smell. I think is just talking about how you long for something and it does not come even if you want it to come really bad. This poem was about change to me, when somehting leaves you it makes a change in your life and you have o deal with it.

The poem Ode by John Keats is extremely short and he is just talking about earth and heaven. He says how can we live two lives in heaven and earth. I think it is just a poem questioning religious beliefs like how we believe that when we die we go to heaven after we have been on earth. It is questioning authority, by questioning religion that is why it is a good poem. But I think he could of went into more detial it was kind of not obvious at first.

I read the poem by George Gordon a spirit passed before. In this poem he is truly questioning us as human beings. I liked this poem just because of how it was written, i think that he is a good writer. But one part was kind of confusing. I think that this is a good romanticism poem because he is questioning everything that we as human beings believe in. I liked this poem because it makes me want to question what I believe in.

What Do I think "Restoration"

I think that people were really in the mood of developing. I think that they seen what had happened with the fire and other stuff. I think that they just wanted to live there life to the fullist. I think if I feel that you never know what you are going to have the next day, so you should truly appreciate what you have today and keep moving on with that and work at getting more. I know if a fire came a destroyed all I ha dand all my neighbors had I would be sad but also glad that I have my life and can move on from where I am.

The Diary of Samuel Pepys

The diary was really about how his life was back then. He told you how his days went and how he perceived things. He tells about his good days and bad days. It kind of reminds me of Anne Franks diary's because it was in a time that I don't know but I can kind of relate to what he was saying. I like when the great fire came he went back to bed and didn't think to much of it. Thats how people are if it is not that close and affecting you, you don't care. I know I would have done the same thing. But when it comes to you then you care when it affects someone that you know than you care.
But I love how he describes things that are happening to him. Like when he was talking about his bad night. When he talks abou thow much he sweats, he says I begin to sweat worse and worse, till I melted almost to water. I think that I love when writers are this descriptive I think I just makes you just want to keep reading.

A Modest Proposal

A Modest Proposal is basically a man proposing to kill all the poor children in a city and sell them for meat. He is saying that it would benefit them because there would be less beggars and it would do something with the poor people. At first I thought that he was actually being very serious about the situation. But then he started talking about how they treated the people who were poor and beggars. I think that he was just trying to state very sarcastically that they treated the people poorly like animals or live stock.

The Restoration "Satire"

Satire basiclly means making fun of different subjects. It is just people joking about stupid things that are happining. A show that really demonstrates satire is the cartoon TheBoondocks, they really just make fun of everything. The Dave Chappelle show is another good example of satire.

The Restoration

The Restoration happened in 1688 when King James II took the thrown and tried to convert the Parliament and the Army into Catholics. A section of the Parliament called the whigs did not want this to happen so they invited William the Orange and Mary to take over the thrown. So they signed the Declaration of Rights and Bill Rights so that they could never get rid of the parliament. This was truly the first step in the Monarchy in England becoming a Parliament.

My Sonnet

Love is like Ice Cream Sweet and Smooth
Easy to enjoy most everyone has there favorite flavor
Ice Cream is like love, nice and soothing
You take every moment to savor

But sometimes love and ice cream are like a screen saver
only lasting for a brief moment
If you have to much you probably won't craver
you might feel like the label and his words were a misprint

But you will always want a reprint
Of the beautiful moments , and the sweet scent of him and ice cream
But you might never let go even wit a hint
Of forgiveness to the puonds and the pains you may gleam

So remember to have everything in moderation
If you never go through these pains congratulations

Sonnets 1

1. The difference betweeen William Shakesphere Sonnets are that every other line does not rhyme like Spencers. Well each sentence does not start off with an sentence ryhming with the others.William Shakesphere uses ABAB CDCD EFEF GG. I truly do not like how he writes his sonnets all that much, I feel like it is a waste of time to write like that when it's to understand and does't catch my attention. I love what he writes about and how he words it in some of his poems, but I hate his writting styles. Spencer writes in a ABAB BCBC CDCD EE. I truly prefer his writing style because it flows so well, thats what I feel poems should do, I don't think that poems should be hard to read. Poems should give you a good feeling, not a confused feeling. But I truly am not a fan of the sonnet.

William Shakesphere

The beginning of the poem he is asking is she like a summer's dance, is she temperate like the summer. I she is easily swayed like buds in the wind, Even though summer is short it is good

The second paragraph is from a second point of view were there saying that summer time is to hot , and it takes your complextion away, summer makes peoples's looks fade, and summer is kind of rough untrimmed.

The third paragraph talks about how everything should do the opposit of what it actually does that is the turn, fire should harden ice and ice should make a fire.

In the fourth paragraph he concludes it by saying that love makes everything happen because people live off it.

Edmund Spencer

In the first paragraph he is saying that the person he loves so much is the total opposite of him, but the more they are not alike th emore he likes her.

In the second paragraph he is saying that by her being so cold to him she is kind of turning him off , but he still kind of likes her.

In the third paragraph now he saying that it is a wonderful thing that his heat could harden her icey ways and her ice could start his fire.

In the fourth Paragraph he is saying love can make what it wants to with who it wants to.

Shakespeare Sonnet

ABAB CDCD EFEF GG
FROM fairest creatures we desire increase,(A)
That thereby beauty's rose might never die,(B)
But as the riper should by time decease,(A)
His tender heir might bear his memory:(B)

But thou, contracted to thine own bright eyes,(C)
Feed'st thy light'st flame with self-substantial fuel,(D)
Making a famine where abundance lies,(C)
Thyself thy foe, to thy sweet self too cruel.(D)

Thou that art now the world's fresh ornament(E)
And only herald to the gaudy spring,(F)
Within thine own bud buriest thy content(E)
And, tender churl, makest waste in niggarding.(F)

Pity the world, or else this glutton be,(G)
To eat the world's due, by the grave and thee.(G)

The first section of this sonnet he is saying that we wish that we could have beauty forever, but beauty only lasts for a time and no one can stop from losing it.

The Second Section of the sonnet he talks about the beuty that we do have makes us want it longer and we set ourself's up for something that we can not have.

In the Third Section it talks if we just look around there is beuty everywhere and if we waste our time thinking about our own, then its just a waste of time.

In the Fourth Section he says that when we only care about our self than it will lead us into destruction.

Edmund Spencer ABAB BCBC CDCD EE

One day I wrote her name upon the strand, (A)
But came the waves and washed it away: (B)
Again I wrote it with a second hand, (A)
But came the tide, and made my pains his prey.(B)

Vain man, said she, that doest in vain assay (B)
A mortal thing so to immortalize, (C)
For I myself shall like to this decay, (B)
And eek my name be wiped out likewise.(C)

Not so (quoth I), let baser things devise (C)
To die in dust, but you shall live by fame: (D)
My verse your virtues rare shall eternize, (C)
And in the heavens write your glorious name.(D)

Where whenas Death shall all the world subdue, (E)
Out love shall live, and later life renew. (E)

In the first section of this poem he is talking about how he is trying to get some womans attention who is barely paying him any attention.

In the Second Section he talks about when he does get her attention, its not the kind of attention he had wanted so he thinks he doesn't want that attention anymore.

In the Third Section he talks about how he wants her to notice him but he is like dust to her but he will always remember her.

In the Fourth Section he says when everything is not going right love will get you through it.

Mentor Log

October 16, 2007 (12:00-1:00)
Today I meet with my Mentor Puja for the first time. We meet at school last week when she came and the person she normally mentors did not show up so she ended up in my class room, we had a conversation and I ended asking was she apart of the Indian program at UGA and would she like to be my mentor. We contacted over email and we decided that since she comes every tuesday we would meet on tuesday and on the weekend.
We discussed what the project consisted of and what she had to do as my mentor. We decided that she would help me learn a classical Indian dance.

October 30, 2007(12:00-1:00)
Today I meet with Puja during lunch break. We went over a few basic steps of the dance. Like Dit tat ta and some others. I truly did not realize how out of shape that i was until we started to practice. It truly invloves nothing but your feet and your hands. I never was a dancer but I truly realized how horrible of a dancer I am. I felt really bad because it was pathetic how i have no kind of coordiantion in my body at all. Each step really takes alot energy out of you even though it seems fairly simply it is not. Even Jessica joined in during the dance but her feet started to hurt. I tryed to keep going even though I sounded like I had ran a marathon by the end of the hour. Puja truly is understanding of me not being such a good dancer and I am glad that I found someone who is as dedicated to helping me learn the dance as I am to learn the dance. I think the final project will really turn out kind of neat.

Sunday November 3, 2007 (7:45-10:30)
Today I went to practice with Puja at her dorms. I was supposed to meet with her at 8:30 but we both did not no that time was going back and so we both were up pretty early and it was convient. But in this meeting we started to learn the exact steps to the dance. Not just pieces and parts. The dance was the first dance that Puja learned her dad had put it on you tube so that she could see how it went. Her little brother was also in the dance. We had to figure out how it was going to go with out me having has many people has the original dance did. I think that we have it looking jus tas cute as the original dance. We practiced it over and over agian. I think that by the end of the 10 hours I should have the dance perfect but if not I am going to pretend like it is. We had a good time at this practice. And I truly did work hard. By the end of the day I had learned only a good minute and thirty seconds of the dance. But truly it felt like an hour long dance. I don't know what else to say.

Tuesday November 5, 2007
Today Puja came during my lunch break and we worked on the dance I think i learned about 20 seconds of the dance to today. I learned to flat foot stomp. I think that I am starting to catch on a little bit quicker. We discussed how long the product has to be. I think that my dance might not be has long as I thought it would be but the little bit that I did get was going to be great.

Tuesday November 13, 2007
Today Puja came during my lunch break. She made sure that I knew that I had to do the first part before I start dancing because it is a religious dance, and that I had to have my shoes off when I danced. And I think tha tI might have offended her while I was eating during the dance, so she told me to stop. We went over the part that I learned and a little extra we decided to end it there. And we just went over it and over it. She told me that she might not be her during the prduct demostration because of final exams. But she is going to try to be there. I thought that I had the dance perfect but I left out a couple of steps and when I do it to the music it doesn't go along with the beat. I think that I should have done something different because I am not that good at dancing and I have known that since i was a little girl. But Puja seems to know how I feel, even though sometimes she seems to get a little impatient with me. But we had a good time today.

Tuesday November 20, 2007 (11:00- 1:00)
Today Puja came in to help me with the final preparation on learning the dance. She found out that the girl she normally mentors is not coming anymore so she is probably going to come early next week. We finally figured out if she was going to be able to come for my product presentation, but she won't be able to make it because of finals. But I hope that will be okay. We also talked about finding something to wear during my presentation agian but I couldn't find what she told me to look for but I think I will just wear anything it not that big of a deal. But it would have been nice if I had the usually dress. And I was thinking about getting the Henna for my feet, but that all depends on if I am going to have the money for that. Me and Puja really got a chance to talk today because I didn't have to do the dance that much.

Tuesday November 27, 2007 (11:00-1:00)
Today Puja came but we really did not do anything. It was Mentor Appreciation Week so we got to go into the conference room and get some snacks. The Brownies were sooo good. It was also was th eday that seniors had planned to take pictures but not enough people showed up for the man to come. I truly did not want him to take my senior pictures anyway because he did not seem like he has enough expriance taking those type of pictures but you never know. Me and Puja talked about the parade and he and her friend came out to help us build the float. We had fun I really enjoy her helping me without the dance being invloved because she seems alittle more laid back. And she finally told me how old she is 17.

Act V: Macbeth

In Act 5 Macbeth is beheaded by Macduff, Lady Macbeth kills herself after she confess's to having something to do with the death of duncan and of Banquo while sleep walking, and Malcolm ends up becoming King after all.
In the beginning we find out that Lady Macbeth has been sleep walking and telling about the murders her and Macbeth have talked about. A docter comes to visit her and the housekeeper or whatever tells him about the sleep walking. When she was sleep walking she said "Wash your hands; put on your nightgown; look not so pale! I tell you yet again, Banquo's buried, He cannot come out on's grave." At first I truly didn't know that she had known about the death of Banquo. Then she talks about how her hands smells of blood, just like what Macbeth was doing when he saw Banquo's ghost, but she literally told it all. Then they tell Macbeth she has died they don't say until the end that she has killed herself. Malcolm says, "Who, as tis thought, byself and violent hands, Took her life."
Then when the armys start to surround the castle Macbeth doesn't think to much about them because of what the witchs had said about only a someone who was not born of a women can kill him, and he only needs to worry when the trees touch the castle. So when the armys cut off branches of the trees to hide their numbers, he really starts to worry then but he ends up killing this young boy, He starts to not worry so much he starts to think about what the witchs say about them not to be born of a woman. But he ends up getting killed by Macduff who was a C- Section baby. Macbeth says, "I bear a charmed life, which must not yeild, To one of woman born." Macduff says, "Macduff was from his mother's womb Untimely ripped."
Finally after Macduff walks in with Macbeth's head in his hands, Malcolm gives his speech and it is over. Leaving everyone wondering how did Banquo's son's become King.

Act IV: Macbeth

In this act Macbeth goes to visit the witchs and they tell him not to worry everything goingto be alright and no one born of a women can harm him. But they also say in the beginning of the play they say what is foul is far and what is far is foul, so it seems to me that since he thinks that everything is going to be just fine it isn't going to be.
Then Macduff's family ends up getting murdered while he is in England. Malcolm goes to England to talk to the King about helping out in the war in Ireland, and he runs into Macduff and tells him all about his family getting murdered and how Macbeth muderied his father and how the country's looking since Macbeth has been in charged. Malcolm says,"Tis called the evil, A most miraculous work in this good king, Which often since my here-remain in England, I have seen him do. How he solicits heaven, Himself Best knows." And so him and Malcolm decide they are goingto go back and take the thrown from Macbeth. I think that most people by now should have noticed how Macbeth is not doing a good job being the king, and even if they haven't they probably will soon.
I think that now that Macbeth is not expecting anything bad to happen in his life Malcolm and Macduff is coming to change everything for him. I think that everything from now on is going to happen to get back at Macbeth I think he is going to end up probably getting killed by Malcolm or Macduff. When he see's Macduff he will probably start to see ghosts agian and completely lose his mind.

Act III: Macbeth

In this act Macbeth secretly hires murders to kill Banquo and his son. But the murder's end up letting the son go. This whole time his wife knows nothing about this. At first I couldn't believe that his wife had nothing to do with this but now I think that Macbeth is truly going crazy for the power of him and his childern running the kingdom.
After they come back and tell him that they have killed Banquo but not his son. The son of Banquo ends up running away because the people assume that he killed his father.he starts to seeing the ghost of Banquo in his chair. He really starts to tell on himself then. He says "Blood hath been shed ere now, i' th' olden time, Ere humane statute purged the gental weal." This is when he first starts to act funny. Then Lady Macbeth tries to cover this all up by saying to the people not to speck to him about what he is doing because it is only going to make him alot worse, say said "I pray you, speak not; he grows worse and worse; Question enrages him: at once, good night. Stand not upon the order of your going, But go at once." I think even though she did not tell him what to do or persuade him into killing Banquo she knew that he would after he killed the King and she was not about to let him ruin it for the both of them.
I think that this whole time I truly was thinking that Banquo was eventually going to kill Macbeth, but now I think that Macbeth is goingto be killed by the people when they find out what all he has done to be king. He has truly become a very ruthless man in his pursuit. But on the other hand he might end up killing his self because of Banquo's ghost.

Act II: Macbeth

In Act 2 Macbeth ends up stabbing the King Duncan to death with a dagger. Lady Macbeth drugs the King and all of his men, by placing something in there drinks that night. I truly think that after all of the talk Lady Macbeth did in the first act I truly thought that she was going to be the one to kill Duncan. But I guess the speach that she gave him, truly made an impact on his choice wether or not to kill Duncan.
In the first beginning Macbeth and Banquo was talking and Banquo says that he dreamed of the three witchs and that they were at least right about Macbeth. He says,"All's well. I dreamt last night of three weird sisters: To you they have showed some truth." I think that Banquo wants what the witch's told him to come true to because he feels like Macbeth's seems to be coming true but how is his, I think Macbeth should be watching out for Banquo.
And Lady Macbeth seems to be a very shady person because she truly didn't do anything but boost Macbeth up, all the blood ends up being on his hands and she is trying to seem like she helped him so much and had something actually to do with that. When she said " My hands are of your color, but I shame. To wear a heart so white." I feel that she will be the one to end up with Banquo and his kids.

Reniassance

I think death really changes a person’s outlook on life and if one third of a population dies the whole community will have a different outlook on life. I think that push, had a lot to do with it. I think that the mind of the people changed. I think that they decided life was way to important to worry about all of the simple stuff in life. I think that they started to know that everything that they thought in life was true.
I think that they decided that nothing was truly all that wrong anymore. They feel like there is more to the world than church and what it says. They knew that there were different aspects to the world that they weren't trully fulfilling. And they started living there lives the way the way the wanted to and not doing what everyone else wanted them to do.

Act 1 (Macbeth)

The first thing in the play that happened was Macbeth meet up with the witches and they told him and Banquo there future. Macbeth would be King one day and Banquo childern would be Kings. Then he killed someone and the king gave him the title the Thane cador, angus brings him the news. On his way home he writes his wife a letter telling her about what the witches say and how the king gave him the Thane of Cawdor, and how he and the king our coming to the house. Then Macbeth starts to have thoughts about how he is going to become king is he going to have to kill someone. Like when he says " Whose horrid image doth unfix my hair, And make my seated heart knock at my ribs, Against the use of nature? Present fears, Are less than horrible imaginings."

So when his wife hears about that she starts plotting on how she is going to kill the king, it seems to me that the thought of power and money made her lose her mind. when she said "The Raven himself is horase, That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan Under my battlements. Come, you spirits. That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me, from the crown to the toe, top- full, Of direst cruelty." It seems to me that planning to kill man was like second nature to Lady Macbeth.

So when Macbeth gets home a day before Lady Macbeth she trys to get him to talk about wanting to kill the King Duncan. At first Macbeth was all up afor killing him but then, I guess his conscience gets to him and he changes his mind. And she tries to call him out and make him change his mind, when she said "Was the hope drunk, Wherein you dressed yourself? Hath it slept since? And wakes it now, to look so green and pale, At what it did so freely?" Then she made it seem like he was a lair and that he should do what he says. I think that Lady Macbeth is going to be in all of the drama from here until the end of the play.

The Wyfe of Bathe

Wyfe of bathe

The Wife of Bathe was an okay story. What I got from it is that you should be grateful for what you get. He raped a girl and then got a chance to redeem himself by finding out what women want, he did that and made a promise to the women who told him. I followed through with his promise but in an unwilling way. Then his wife gave him a second chance by letting him chose how he wanted her to be. I that him doing what the Queen said and keeping his promise he followed the rules. But when it came to his wife he promised her that he would do whatever she said and all she truly wanted was for him to marry and love her for who she was but he truly did not. I think people really pay attention what outward looks. From a book to how a person looks. I truly believe the saying you should not judge a book by its cover because it applies to all aspects of life. Like Serial Killers you would never know that they would kill a person by there outward appearance most of the time. They could be the most well dressed person you know, but truly you never know what is going on in a persons mind. When He told his wife he did not care which ever one would make her happy, she knew exactly what he wanted and gave it to him. He gets all excited about her new looks he doesn’t even care about the personality or anything. I bet later own he will care when she breaks his heart. I just think take a second look at the inside of a person before you judge them.

Canterbury Tales

Mr. Seigmund
The Canterbury Tales
The Knight
The Knight is described as a man who is seen to be godly always winning battles never defeated and loyal to his king but comes off to be very humble. In the text they say that "His steeds were good, but he was not gaily dressed." And so that truly gave me that impression.
The Squire
The Squire was the Knights son and I got the picture that he was good looking and liked to flirt with women. The said he could dance and sing, so he seemed to be very artistic in character. Like when they said, "He could make songs and words thereto indite, Joust, and dance too, as well as sketch and write." So today we would call that person artistic.
The Yeoman
The Yeoman seemed to be his side kick. He seemed to be an outdoors man. I get this impression when they say "A forester he truly was, I guess." Even though it seems that he doubts his ability.
The Prioress
They said that she was nun and that she was mannerable in her ways. They also said that she cared a lot for things and animals. I got that idea from when they said "That she would weep if she but saw a mouse Caught in a trap, whether it were dead or bled."
The Second Nun and Three Priests
The just really said there was another nun who had three priests.
The Monk
I feel like the Monk did not fulfill his position in the ways that he should, it seemed to me that he worried about his possessions and his appearance more than anything else. Like when the said "This same monk let old things slowly pace, And followed new-world manners in their place."
The Friar
This one was a little confusing because at first they made it seem as though he was a man of means. But he was actually a beggar on the streets but it seemed that he was a smart man. "With threadbare cope like the poor scholar, But he was like a lord or like a pope.
The Merchant
There are saying that to the eye he appeared has though everything was going good in his life and business, but he was actually in debt. "There was no person that knew he was in debt, So well he managed all his trade affairs, With bargains and with borrowings and with shares.
The Clerk
The Clerk was an educated man with little means who did not care for his outward appearance. "On books and learning he would swiftly spend, And then he’d pray diligently for the souls, Of those who gave him resources to attend schools.
The Sergeant of Law
The Sergeant of Law had money and dressed nicely. He knew laws more than anyone; he seemed like a modern day lawyer. "He knew all convictions, common and crime, Recorded since King Williams time. And he could write a contract so explicit, Not any man could trace a fault in it; And every law he knew entirely by rote.
The Franklin
It seemed to me as he they were saying that he was a very plump man and that he loved to eat and drink. "His house was never short of food and pies, Of fish and flesh, and these in large supplies.
A Haberdasher and a Carpenter, An Arramaker, Dyer, and Weaver
These are friends, who acted as though they had very high means, they seem to have high maintenance wives. "For property they’d enough, and income too; Besides their wives declared it was their due, Or else for certain they had been to blame.
The Cook
It sounds like he was a good cook, but in some ways he was nasty. "That on his shin an open sore had he; For sweet blanc- mange, he made it with the best."
The Shipman
The Shipman was a sailor who was not a very honest person. "Nice conscience was a thing that he never kept."
The Physician
It seemed to me as if they thought of him not truly knowing what he was doing, well maybe like a root doctor. And it seemed like he cared more about money than his patients. "Since gold in physic is a cordial, There he loved his gold exceeding all.
The Wife of Bath
It seemed as if he messed with lot of men, even though it seems he doesn’t find her that pretty. "Wearing a large wimple, and over all a hat, As broad is a buckler or a targe; An overskirt was tucked around her buttocks large, And her feet spurred sharply under that."

The Parson
They are saying that he was a very holy humble man who would help anyone out rich or poor, and did not care that he really didn’t have any money. "Nor haughty in his speech, nor too divine, But in all teaching courteous and benign."
The Plowman
They are saying even though he was a poor man that he did what he had to do to survive and that he paid his taxes on time no matter what he had to do. "He paid his taxes, fully, when it was due, Both by his toil and possessions he’d sell too.
The Miller
It seems to me as they picture this man to be a bully, because of his size. "But mostly all of sin and obscenity, He could steal corn and three times charge his fee;"
The Manciple
It seems to me that he was a very smart man but he did come off that way. "That such vulgar man has wit to pace, The wisdom of a crowd of learned men?"
The Reeve
The Reeve seemed to me like a land owner with people working for him, he seemed to be unkind and cruel to the workers on his land. "There was no agent, herd, or servant who’d cheat; He knew too well their cunning and deceit; They were afraid of him as of the death.
The Summoner
The Summoner sounds to me as if he were a drunk, and was not an attractive man. "And drink strong blood red wine until dizzy. Then would he talk and shout as if he’s crazy.
The Pardoner
It seems to me that he was a little different from everyone and that he liked to be different. "It seemed to him he rode in the latest style, with unbound hair, except his cap, head all bare.
The Proposal of the Host
This is about the man telling about himself and how he is telling the story by what he remembers. "When one repeats a tale told by a man, He must report, as closely as he can."

Beowulf

I had read Beowulf a couple of years ago and had remembered what the story was about, well parts of it. But still forgetting how difficult it could be to read and how by it being a poem when they switch subjects it can be a little complex to differ from one part to another. But in the end I think that I truly got more out of the story my second time reading it.
I think that this story was one on how people can assume so much in life. Well how Beowulf came to save the day in all of his glory, and everyone was really behind him thanking him for coming and all even though on person had some doubts about his ability to handle the situation even him, hisself had some doubts. It really showed how when you truly think something fixed a new problem comes along and can be at times tougher than the first problem. Grendals mom shows that there is always that bigger, badder problem hiding in the closet ready to come out.
I think that people everywhere are very similar even years ago. I feel like the Anglo- Saxens are like the people of today they believe the hype. When Beowulf came and said he was going to this amazing thing by killing Grendal everyone believed him, even though there may have been some skeptics, he looked like the real thing so everyone went for it. It's like commercials today they tell you they do all these amazing things, so you go out and buy it and it does nothing like it says it does, it was just that hype. I feel like Hereot was a club or a bar of today. People go there to relax to enjoy themselves, to drink and just have a good time. To get away from the stresses of today. I feel lik ethey are like us because there are always those people who are going to call you out and say what they think. Like when Hrothgar protectors of the Danes called out Beowulf saying that he did not believe he could do from what had happened to him in his past. I feel that there is always that one negative person doubting someones abilitys. I feel when Beowulf apologized for letting Grendal go, he was showing everyone that even heros make mistakes.
I feel like they showed the anglo-saxo culture thorough Beowulf by showing how everyone makes mistakes and has doubts. That nothing is always truly fixed when you think it is and even heros can be conquered by something truly unexpected. I feel that everyone and everything has its human nature to it by being vulnerable, even Superman has his Kryptonite.
I feel that this story relates to Superman because every now and then even the super hero has problems and even though everyone around him may think not he does. I feel like even our modern day heros have there weakness and may eventually fall to demise.
I truly hate when Beowulf is conquered by the dragon it truly shows that everyone has there day and that you should never expect perfection, ever story does not end in happily ever after. I fell like sometimes people need a little reality. The good guy doesn't always win.
