A Modest Proposal
A Modest Proposal is basically a man proposing to kill all the poor children in a city and sell them for meat. He is saying that it would benefit them because there would be less beggars and it would do something with the poor people. At first I thought that he was actually being very serious about the situation. But then he started talking about how they treated the people who were poor and beggars. I think that he was just trying to state very sarcastically that they treated the people poorly like animals or live stock.

The Restoration "Satire"
Satire basiclly means making fun of different subjects. It is just people joking about stupid things that are happining. A show that really demonstrates satire is the cartoon TheBoondocks, they really just make fun of everything. The Dave Chappelle show is another good example of satire.
The Restoration
The Restoration happened in 1688 when King James II took the thrown and tried to convert the Parliament and the Army into Catholics. A section of the Parliament called the whigs did not want this to happen so they invited William the Orange and Mary to take over the thrown. So they signed the Declaration of Rights and Bill Rights so that they could never get rid of the parliament. This was truly the first step in the Monarchy in England becoming a Parliament.

My Sonnet
Love is like Ice Cream Sweet and Smooth
Easy to enjoy most everyone has there favorite flavor
Ice Cream is like love, nice and soothing
You take every moment to savor
But sometimes love and ice cream are like a screen saver
only lasting for a brief moment
If you have to much you probably won't craver
you might feel like the label and his words were a misprint
But you will always want a reprint
Of the beautiful moments , and the sweet scent of him and ice cream
But you might never let go even wit a hint
Of forgiveness to the puonds and the pains you may gleam
So remember to have everything in moderation
If you never go through these pains congratulations

Sonnets 1
1. The difference betweeen William Shakesphere Sonnets are that every other line does not rhyme like Spencers. Well each sentence does not start off with an sentence ryhming with the others.William Shakesphere uses ABAB CDCD EFEF GG. I truly do not like how he writes his sonnets all that much, I feel like it is a waste of time to write like that when it's to understand and does't catch my attention. I love what he writes about and how he words it in some of his poems, but I hate his writting styles. Spencer writes in a ABAB BCBC CDCD EE. I truly prefer his writing style because it flows so well, thats what I feel poems should do, I don't think that poems should be hard to read. Poems should give you a good feeling, not a confused feeling. But I truly am not a fan of the sonnet.
William Shakesphere
The beginning of the poem he is asking is she like a summer's dance, is she temperate like the summer. I she is easily swayed like buds in the wind, Even though summer is short it is good
The second paragraph is from a second point of view were there saying that summer time is to hot , and it takes your complextion away, summer makes peoples's looks fade, and summer is kind of rough untrimmed.
The third paragraph talks about how everything should do the opposit of what it actually does that is the turn, fire should harden ice and ice should make a fire.
In the fourth paragraph he concludes it by saying that love makes everything happen because people live off it.
Edmund Spencer
In the first paragraph he is saying that the person he loves so much is the total opposite of him, but the more they are not alike th emore he likes her.
In the second paragraph he is saying that by her being so cold to him she is kind of turning him off , but he still kind of likes her.
In the third paragraph now he saying that it is a wonderful thing that his heat could harden her icey ways and her ice could start his fire.
In the fourth Paragraph he is saying love can make what it wants to with who it wants to.
Shakespeare Sonnet
ABAB CDCD EFEF GG
FROM fairest creatures we desire increase,(A)
That thereby beauty's rose might never die,(B)
But as the riper should by time decease,(A)
His tender heir might bear his memory:(B)
But thou, contracted to thine own bright eyes,(C)
Feed'st thy light'st flame with self-substantial fuel,(D)
Making a famine where abundance lies,(C)
Thyself thy foe, to thy sweet self too cruel.(D)
Thou that art now the world's fresh ornament(E)
And only herald to the gaudy spring,(F)
Within thine own bud buriest thy content(E)
And, tender churl, makest waste in niggarding.(F)
Pity the world, or else this glutton be,(G)
To eat the world's due, by the grave and thee.(G)
The first section of this sonnet he is saying that we wish that we could have beauty forever, but beauty only lasts for a time and no one can stop from losing it.
The Second Section of the sonnet he talks about the beuty that we do have makes us want it longer and we set ourself's up for something that we can not have.
In the Third Section it talks if we just look around there is beuty everywhere and if we waste our time thinking about our own, then its just a waste of time.
In the Fourth Section he says that when we only care about our self than it will lead us into destruction.
Edmund Spencer ABAB BCBC CDCD EE
One day I wrote her name upon the strand, (A)
But came the waves and washed it away: (B)
Again I wrote it with a second hand, (A)
But came the tide, and made my pains his prey.(B)
Vain man, said she, that doest in vain assay (B)
A mortal thing so to immortalize, (C)
For I myself shall like to this decay, (B)
And eek my name be wiped out likewise.(C)
Not so (quoth I), let baser things devise (C)
To die in dust, but you shall live by fame: (D)
My verse your virtues rare shall eternize, (C)
And in the heavens write your glorious name.(D)
Where whenas Death shall all the world subdue, (E)
Out love shall live, and later life renew. (E)
In the first section of this poem he is talking about how he is trying to get some womans attention who is barely paying him any attention.
In the Second Section he talks about when he does get her attention, its not the kind of attention he had wanted so he thinks he doesn't want that attention anymore.
In the Third Section he talks about how he wants her to notice him but he is like dust to her but he will always remember her.
In the Fourth Section he says when everything is not going right love will get you through it.

Mentor Log
October 16, 2007 (12:00-1:00)
Today I meet with my Mentor Puja for the first time. We meet at school last week when she came and the person she normally mentors did not show up so she ended up in my class room, we had a conversation and I ended asking was she apart of the Indian program at UGA and would she like to be my mentor. We contacted over email and we decided that since she comes every tuesday we would meet on tuesday and on the weekend.
We discussed what the project consisted of and what she had to do as my mentor. We decided that she would help me learn a classical Indian dance.
October 30, 2007(12:00-1:00)
Today I meet with Puja during lunch break. We went over a few basic steps of the dance. Like Dit tat ta and some others. I truly did not realize how out of shape that i was until we started to practice. It truly invloves nothing but your feet and your hands. I never was a dancer but I truly realized how horrible of a dancer I am. I felt really bad because it was pathetic how i have no kind of coordiantion in my body at all. Each step really takes alot energy out of you even though it seems fairly simply it is not. Even Jessica joined in during the dance but her feet started to hurt. I tryed to keep going even though I sounded like I had ran a marathon by the end of the hour. Puja truly is understanding of me not being such a good dancer and I am glad that I found someone who is as dedicated to helping me learn the dance as I am to learn the dance. I think the final project will really turn out kind of neat.
Sunday November 3, 2007 (7:45-10:30)
Today I went to practice with Puja at her dorms. I was supposed to meet with her at 8:30 but we both did not no that time was going back and so we both were up pretty early and it was convient. But in this meeting we started to learn the exact steps to the dance. Not just pieces and parts. The dance was the first dance that Puja learned her dad had put it on you tube so that she could see how it went. Her little brother was also in the dance. We had to figure out how it was going to go with out me having has many people has the original dance did. I think that we have it looking jus tas cute as the original dance. We practiced it over and over agian. I think that by the end of the 10 hours I should have the dance perfect but if not I am going to pretend like it is. We had a good time at this practice. And I truly did work hard. By the end of the day I had learned only a good minute and thirty seconds of the dance. But truly it felt like an hour long dance. I don't know what else to say.
Tuesday November 5, 2007
Today Puja came during my lunch break and we worked on the dance I think i learned about 20 seconds of the dance to today. I learned to flat foot stomp. I think that I am starting to catch on a little bit quicker. We discussed how long the product has to be. I think that my dance might not be has long as I thought it would be but the little bit that I did get was going to be great.
Tuesday November 13, 2007
Today Puja came during my lunch break. She made sure that I knew that I had to do the first part before I start dancing because it is a religious dance, and that I had to have my shoes off when I danced. And I think tha tI might have offended her while I was eating during the dance, so she told me to stop. We went over the part that I learned and a little extra we decided to end it there. And we just went over it and over it. She told me that she might not be her during the prduct demostration because of final exams. But she is going to try to be there. I thought that I had the dance perfect but I left out a couple of steps and when I do it to the music it doesn't go along with the beat. I think that I should have done something different because I am not that good at dancing and I have known that since i was a little girl. But Puja seems to know how I feel, even though sometimes she seems to get a little impatient with me. But we had a good time today.
Tuesday November 20, 2007 (11:00- 1:00)
Today Puja came in to help me with the final preparation on learning the dance. She found out that the girl she normally mentors is not coming anymore so she is probably going to come early next week. We finally figured out if she was going to be able to come for my product presentation, but she won't be able to make it because of finals. But I hope that will be okay. We also talked about finding something to wear during my presentation agian but I couldn't find what she told me to look for but I think I will just wear anything it not that big of a deal. But it would have been nice if I had the usually dress. And I was thinking about getting the Henna for my feet, but that all depends on if I am going to have the money for that. Me and Puja really got a chance to talk today because I didn't have to do the dance that much.
Tuesday November 27, 2007 (11:00-1:00)
Today Puja came but we really did not do anything. It was Mentor Appreciation Week so we got to go into the conference room and get some snacks. The Brownies were sooo good. It was also was th eday that seniors had planned to take pictures but not enough people showed up for the man to come. I truly did not want him to take my senior pictures anyway because he did not seem like he has enough expriance taking those type of pictures but you never know. Me and Puja talked about the parade and he and her friend came out to help us build the float. We had fun I really enjoy her helping me without the dance being invloved because she seems alittle more laid back. And she finally told me how old she is 17.
